Third Grade Poetry
Allow Me to Introduce Myself
Poem by Charles R. Smith, Jr.
Storyworks Feb/March 2011
They call me
the show stopper
the dime dropper
the spin-move-to-the-left
reverse jam poppa.
The high flier
on the high wire.
The intense rim-rattlin'
noise
amplifier.
The net-shaker
back board breaker
creator
of the funky dunk
hip-shaker.
The Man
Sir Slam
The Legend
I be.
That's just
a few of the names
they call me.
From Short Takes by Charles R. Smith, Jr.
Bandit
By Peggy Archer
Storyworks Nov/Dec 2010
My dog has two black patches
that cover up his eyes.
He sneaks around from room to room,
a bandit in disguise.
Stealing socks and slippers,
baseball caps and soap,
garden gloves and wooden spoons,
keys and jumping rope.
So if there's something missing,
like a book or cowboy boot,
just take a look by Bandit's bed---
that's where he keeps his loot.
